Grants Pass - Gateway to Southern Oregon
Grants Pass is the perfect starting point for your Southern Oregon adventure. Just one hour from the California border and two hours from the Oregon coast it is a gateway to some of the most beautiful and varied scenery found anywhere on earth.
In Grants Pass you'll find lots to see and do. The wild and scenic Rogue River runs through the heart of downtown and is only a few miles upriver from the world-famous Hellgate Canyon. A sign over 6th Street says "It's the Climate" and welcomes you to the historic downtown district. Located in the "banana belt" of Southern Oregon the city enjoys a dry, mild climate ideal for a wide range of outdoor activities including fishing, river rafting, hiking, biking and more.
A short two or three hour drive in any direction can transport you to some surprising destinations.
Less than one hour to the south is Ashland, Oregon, home of the renowned Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Just a few miles outside of town nestled in the magnificent Siskiyou Mountains is Mount Ashland where you can enjoy world class skiing during winter months. Ashland also features a thriving art community and unique restaurants and shops downtown.
A two-hour drive to the southeast leads to Crater Lake, the crown jewel of Southern Oregon. A volcano named Mount Mazama erupted 7,700 years ago, then collapsed and filled with water, forming Crater Lake, the deepest lake in the United States. The Rim Village Visitor Center is open June through September.
Take the Redwood Highway (US-199) to the southwest. Along the way you'll find Cave Junction, gateway to the Oregon Caves. The Redwood Highway also leads to Redwoods National Park and the Smith River National Recreation Area. About a two hour drive from Grants Pass are the coastal cities of Brookings and Crescent City.
To the north it's only a one-hour drive to Cow Creek, home of the Seven Feathers Casino.
Come and explore Grants Pass and Southern Oregon and experience what this truly special area has to offer...
